„MUROWANIEC” was built between 1921 and 1925 by the Warsaw Branch of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTT), mainly through the efforts of President Stanisław Osiecki (commemorative plaque from 1969). The first sketches of the building, made of large unprocessed stones on the outside, were drawn in the spring of 1914 by architect Jan Koszyc-Witkiewicz. The final project was created by Zdzisław Kalinowski and Karol Siciński. The construction was a challenging task undertaken by the High Mountain Company of the 3rd Polish Scouts’ Battalion. The opening ceremony was performed on July 12, 1925 by the President of the Republic of Poland, Stanisław Wojciechowski. In 1950-51, the western wing was added and the interior was modified, enlarging the facility to its current size. In 1963, the shelter partially burned down and was subsequently rebuilt, although the famous hall known as „The Coffin” was not restored. Since 1983, the shelter has been managed by Andrzej Kusion, a rescuer from the Mountain Volunteer Search and Rescue (GOPR) and the Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue (TOPR), who has been modernizing the facility in recent years. At the entrance to the shelter, there is a plaque dedicated to the memory of Adam Asnyk, embedded in 1929 and unveiled in 1930. The 1927 project originally planned to carve it into one of the rocks above Morskie Oko lake.
